The CEO of Anas, Claudio Andrea Gemme, in his capacity as Extraordinary Government Commissioner for the modernization works of the A2 “Mediterranean Motorway” this morning carried out an inspection of the section to be modernized between Cosenza and Altilia.
“We are determined – declared Gemme – to continue the process to complete the modernization of the A2 in full synergy and institutional collaboration with the Calabria Region, the Government and local authorities. The work is of fundamental importance for the country and requires simplified procedures for the approval of the projects also with a view to the construction of the Bridge over the Strait of Messina”.
Present at the inspection were the Subcommissioner for the modernization of the A2 Fulvio Maria Soccodato, the Anas Manager for Calabria Luigi Mupo, the Manager of new Anas Calabria works Massimiliano Campanella and the Manager of Anas Calabria Network Management Domenico Curcio.
This was followed by a meeting with the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto where the point was also made on other strategic issues such as the state road 106 “Jonica” and the SS 182 “Trasversale delle Serre”.
For both works Anas signed legality protocols to prevent the risks of interference from organized crime and guarantee the transparency of the works.
Yesterday evening the CEO Anas Gemme met the Prefect of Catanzaro Castrese De Rosa.
The project
The project is based on an investment of approximately four billion euros on five lots of the stretch between Cosenza and Altilia and is approximately 27 km long. It provides for a variant to the current Ruiz and Stupino viaducts with the same characteristics as the already modernized sections of the A2 motorway.
The route between Cosenza and Altilia is characterized by steep gradients and tight curves; maintenance work has already begun on pavements, safety barriers and viaducts. For some time Anas has been carrying out an extraordinary maintenance plan to redevelop the stretch with new paving, protective barriers and rehabilitation of viaducts. Technical checks and in-depth checks are underway precisely on the viaducts to define the interventions necessary to guarantee the safety and durability of the works.
The modernization of the route will guarantee greater standards of safety and high comfort.
