Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes won the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix. On the Spa circuit, the world championship leader preceded Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, second, and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari was fourth ahead of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren. Hamilton pays the 5″ penalty following the contact on the first lap with George Russell’s Mercedes. The latter, therefore, receives a very heavy zero in terms of the World Championship and now slips to -50 behind his teammate. Fifth place, however, for Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, which crosses the finish line ahead of Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) and Lando Norris (McLaren), author of a partial comeback from thirteenth place. Gabriel Bortoleto completes the top 10 of the day (Audi), Arvidi Lindblad (Racing Bulls) and Franco Colapinto (Alpine). Next week Formula 1 will stop in Hungary for the last race before the summer break.
Antonelli: “It’s great to win again”
“It’s great to be back on the top step of the podium after some difficult stages. It was a very hard-fought race, we lost first position due to the virtual safety car, but then we managed to recover it. Leclerc was fast and we had to hold on to the end. I’ve always had the right momentum, but for various reasons I haven’t brought home results in the last few races. Now we’ve recovered points, we have to continue to get results.” Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli said this after his triumph in the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Leclerc: “I believed in it until the end”
