It will also be possible to include the lesser-known archaeological sites of Ionian Reggio among the priority interventions in terms of protection, valorisation and enjoyment of the cultural heritage of Calabria? The challenge is open after the publication, in the Official Bulletin of the Calabria Region number 198 of 24 September, of thepolicy document which illustrates the strategies and operational methods for the interventions to be carried out, in line with the provisions of the 2021/2027 unitary regional programming. «The act represents – it is written in the introduction – the instrument for starting the procedures for identifying the interventions to be financed under the 2021/2027 Development and Cohesion Fund».
The premise precedes the first part of the act, in which a survey of the regional cultural heritage is carried out, starting from the archaeological areas. And in the latter, it immediately deals with the Greek colonies with the listing of the archaeological sites, as regards the Ionian Reggina, of Locri Epizehiri and of theancient Kaulonnow Monasterace Marina. A list which is necessarily synthetic and non-exhaustive and precedes that of the great religious attractions, libraries and archives, villages, museums, galleries and collections, palaces or valuable buildings, historic homes, historic parks and gardens and castle and fortification systems, and industrial archeology areas and structures.
Having a clear understanding of the cultural heritage to focus on, an intervention strategy based on some key actions is designed in the policy act, such as optimizing the accessibility of the cultural heritage, its networking, the identification of nodes or specific hubs and the establishment of cultural districts, within the framework of «an integrated development plan aimed at transforming the regional heritage into a real lever of economic development». And within the framework of the projects to be identified and on which to concentrate resources, among the priority areas are, alongside the path started for the candidacy for UNESCO heritage relating to the testimonies of Italian-Greek culture between the high and late Middle Ages (of which we have given news at the beginning of the year) also new projects for the recovery, restoration and valorisation of cultural heritage, as well as the completion and optimization of projects already underway.
