The municipal council, led by mayor Simona Scarcella, in recent days decided to challenge the cancellation plan approved by the Southern Apennines Basin Authority before the Regional Court of Public Waters – the competent body in the matter.
A choice that could pave the way for other Calabrian municipalities. The Basin Authority’s document, which redefines the areas at hydraulic and hydrogeological risk, had already sparked the discontent of numerous administrators, critical of the failure to apply the participatory procedures required by law. Scarcella was among the first to speak out against the plan, deemed “not corresponding to the needs of protecting the territory and the real flood and hydrogeological risks of the community”.
