Numerous dog boxes were seized by the soldiers of the Scalea Forestry Carabinieri Unit during a check carried out in the locality of Pisciotta, in the municipality of San Nicola Arcella. The structures, within which 23 dogs were kept, mostly English Pointers belonging to the kennel of a local man, had been built in an area falling within state river property and subject to restrictions, occupied without any authorization.

The investigation – conducted together with municipal technicians – made it possible to identify nine garages and various precarious buildings, all without a building permit or any urban planning authorization. Inside the shelters, the Army men also found serious hygienic-sanitary deficiencies, with accumulations of excrement, absence of waste collection and disposal systems and dispersion of sewage on the ground.

Despite the structural and environmental situation, the dogs were found to be regularly detained and in good health, as certified by the veterinarians who intervened on site.

In light of the violations found, the Forestry Carabinieri ordered the seizure with the right to use the area, while the manager of the farm was referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola for urban planning and environmental violations, as well as for illicit waste management.
