“2026 is a difficult year, but I managed to get my place in the team. I managed to qualify for the European Championships and the World Championships which will take place in June and July and are the two main events of the year. I’m definitely experiencing a different career, because doing it as a mother is certainly very, very complicated, but I think it’s wonderful. I now have the goal of Los Angeles in front of me, it’s definitely the main one.” Arianna Errigo, winner of four Olympic medals in foil, talks about her goals for the current year and in view of Los Angeles 2028, where her fifth participation in the Games could come.
«At forty he would be truly wonderful»
“Los Angeles excites me, because obviously it would be my last Olympics – he says from the Carabinieri Village -. I would get there when I was forty and I already think that is truly wonderful. It’s difficult, because in any case being in the team for twenty years is not something so obvious.”
As for the current year’s commitments, “we always aim for the maximum, undoubtedly. It’s obvious that the European Championship for me will be more of a physical test. The main objective remains the World Championship in Hong Kong, which is the most important race”.
«The hunger of twenty-year-olds today must be sought»
And on how his way of experiencing fencing has changed after so many years, he explains that the thing that is missing most today is “the hunger you have when you are twenty, to demonstrate, to want to reach those in front of you”.
Then she adds: “In my career I have always looked for a challenge, to return after maternity leave, to double-wield, to train alone without a teacher. I have always looked for something that would help me bring out that extra something, because at twenty it all comes instinctively, then you have to help yourself.”
