The Silent Reading Party Tour, promoted by Il Sole 24 Ore as part of the celebrations for its 160 years, returns to Sicily. The itinerant initiative to raise awareness of the value of quality information and the pleasure of rediscovering it through “silent”, attentive reading, concentrated on the contents, will have its fourth stop on Monday 27 October in Messina, in the corporate center of Società Editrice Sud Gazzetta del Sud Giornale di Sicilia, where the deputy director of the economic newspaper Daniele Bellasio will be present, welcomed by the president and editorial director of Ses Lino Morgante and the director in charge of Gazzetta Nino Rizzo Nervo.
The protagonists of the event, which will open at 6.30 pm in the auditorium, will be students of UniMe GDS Lab, the journalism laboratory promoted by the University of Messina and Ses, which will conclude its 2025 edition, and of UniVersoMe, the University’s student newspaper.
As part of the synergy between the publishing companies, Il Sole 24 Ore had chosen to open the national tour last June in Palermo, in the headquarters of the Giornale di Sicilia (with the presence of UniPa university students and the deputy director of the economic newspaper Jean Marie del Bo, with the joint intervention of the director Fabio Tamburini), then continuing in Porto Rotondo (in collaboration with the Unione Sarda) and in Casale Monferrato (with Il Monferrato).
CEO Silvestri: we celebrate 160 years with the public
“2025 – states the CEO of Sole 24 Ore, Federico Silvestri – is a special year for us: we are celebrating 160 years of history of Sole 24 Ore, a journey that belongs not only to the newspaper, but above all to those who have made this exciting journey possible, our readers. We therefore wanted these celebrations to be a moment of shared participation, a way of saying thank you to those who, every day, choose to read, inform themselves and to reflect with us.”
“We started in February – he continues – with the “Become Opinion Reader” campaign in which we involved our readers by asking them to talk about their connection with the newspaper, then transforming them into real testimonials of this collective story. We then gave life to a new format, the Silent Reading Party, with which we reach the fourth stage, the second in Sicily and this time with the collaboration of the Gazzetta del Sud, which we thank for the opportunity to involve the readers in the area in a model of participatory, silent, shared reading. A model that was born overseas in the literary field and we experimented for the first time in Italy with a newspaper. Not just an editorial experiment, an invitation to rediscover reading as a conscious gesture, as a tool to better understand what surrounds us and therefore, also ourselves.
And, in the same spirit, I am happy to relaunch the appointment, next November 9th at the Mudec in Milan, with the event “160 years together. Informing, participating, growing”: a whole day of workshops and meetings to delve deeper into the issues that populate everyday life”.
Dialogue with young people, who will write about it in Noi Magazine
Monday’s event in Messina will open with the reading of the newspapers, which will then be commented on by the young people with deputy director Bellasio, then the visit to the Gazzetta’s editorial offices (newspaper, website, radio, TV) and a very special moment in the Ses press center, which produces ten newspapers every day, the two of the Ses Group and eight other national newspapers, including Il Sole 24 Ore, which is then distributed between Sicily and Calabria. We will therefore witness the printing of the economic newspaper live, which is the first to come out in the evening production line. The initiative will then be told by the young people of the Lab themselves on the pages of the Noi Magazine insert of Gazzetta del Sud, which will resume publication for the new ’25-’26 season on Thursday 30 October.
The two newspapers together on newsstands on Tuesday 28 October, and in schools on Thursday
The collaboration between the publishing companies will be made concrete by the combination of the two newspapers, Gazzetta del Sud and Il Sole 24 Ore, which will be on newsstands together on Tuesday 28 October at the cost of the Gazzetta alone, while on Thursday 30 the business newspaper will be delivered with the Gazzetta to the Sicilian and Calabrian schools participating in the “Gazzetta del Sud in classroom with Noi Magazine” project who request it. A significant activity within the GDS Academy of Ses, to promote attention to quality information among young people, fueling pluralism and comparison between reliable sources.
