The almost 23-year-old tennis player from South Tyrol, number 1 seed and leader of the world rankings, beat the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan in three sets in the second round (round of 16), with a score of 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 .
For a place in the semi-final the Italian will face the winner of the match between the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, sixth seeding, and the German Jan-Lennard Struff, who eliminated Luciano Darderi on his debut. Sinner’s doubles partner, Hubert Hurkacz, also reached the quarterfinals: the Pole, fifth favorite of the tournament, won 7-6(3) 6-4 over the Australian qualifier James Duckworth.
