Lorenzo Sonego won her first round match at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle (ATP 500 on grass at the OWL Arena, prize money 2,411,390 euros). The Turin tennis player, number 57 in the world ranking, beat the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (54) on his debut in straight sets with a score of 7-6(6) 7-6(5) and now awaits the winner of the derby in the second round German which will pit Oscar Otte against world no.4 Alexander Zverev.

Cocciaretto eliminates Ostapenko

Nice victory for Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the first round of the «Rothesay International» (Wta 250 – 267,802 dollars in prize money) which is being played on the grass of Birmingham, Great Britain. The 23 year old from Fermo, n.44 WTA, won on her debut against the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, n.13 in the ranking and first seeding favourite, as well as reigning champion, defeated in two sets with a score of 6-3 6- 3. The Italian will face the American Sloane Stephens, n.48 WTA, in the second round, who also prevailed with a double 6-3 over the Chinese Yuan Yue.

Lucia Bronzetti also did well: the Italian passed the first round in the WTA tournament in Birmingham by beating the Polish Frech in three sets: 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. For Bronzetti, now, the winner of the Russian derby between Potapova (7) and Avanesyan.
