In the week of the ATP Finals in Turin, Carlo Alcaraz overtook the top of the rankings: the Spaniard returned to the top with 11,050 points and the Italian fell to second place with 10,000. Neither of them played last week but in the same period a year ago Sinner had triumphed at the ATP Finals.
To regain the lead in the ranking and end the year as number one for Sinner, not even a triumph in Turin will be enough: he must do so undefeated, thus reaching 11,500 points, provided that Alcaraz does not win more than two matches in the group (he has already won one against de Minaur) and does not reach the final. In the event of the title but with a defeat in the group, the South Tyrolean should even hope that Alcaraz loses the next two matches and is immediately eliminated.
