An episode of unprecedented and premeditated violence occurred in November 2024 in the emergency room of Lamezia Terme, where Doctor Rosarino Procopio was brutally attacked. The man, armed with a truncheon, allegedly hit the doctor with the intention of “asserting his own reasons”, after having been informed that a relative no longer required treatment and could be discharged.
The attack, in the presence of other relatives of the accused, caused physical and psychological injuries to Doctor Procopio, who was forced to take a long period of absence from work. The attacker was arrested red-handed, and the Catanzaro Provincial Health Authority decided to join as a civil party, also to support the contestation of the crimes of interruption of public service and damage.
The investigating judge Domenico Riccio has ordered the accused to be sent to trial: the first hearing is set before the Court of Lamezia Terme, in a monocratic composition, for 19 November 2025.
The ASP of Catanzaro, assisted by the lawyer Antonello Bevilacqua of the Lamezia Terme Court, will reiterate its constitution as a civil party. “It is a path that we have followed on other occasions, also to demonstrate closeness to the people affected – states the company management -. Whoever attacks a healthcare worker attacks the Company”.
