A very serious episode occurred during the night in the Lauropoli Post Office, a hamlet of Cassano allo Ionio, where unknown persons, using explosives, devastated part of the structure and removed the ATM.

“A cowardly and unacceptable act – he defines it with disdain Sofia Maimone, president of the municipal council – which affects not only a safeguard of legality and public service, but the entire community, in a moment as symbolic and full of meaning as the day before Christmas. A time that should be dedicated to serenity, sharing and peace is unfortunately transformed into an occasion troubled by violence and illegality.”

In addition to the material damage, this gesture causes enormous inconvenience to citizens, in particular the elderly and the most vulnerable, who in recent days go to the post office to use essential services.

“This is not just a theft, but a direct attack on the sense of security and trust that every citizen has the right to feel in their community. To the police forces, already involved in shedding light on the incident, I renew my full support and the utmost gratitude for the constant and precious work they carry out”, concludes the note.

Even the mayor, Gianpaolo Iacobini, strongly condemns the serious episode that occurred during the night in Lauropoli, where a commando, with two violent explosions, attacked the Post Office and took away the ATM.

«We strongly condemn this cowardly and worrying gesture – highlighted the Mayor – which above all harms our elderly, the citizens who use the ATM every day for primary needs, and all those who, having returned to the city for the holidays, now find themselves in difficulty. The violence and unscrupulousness with which the act was committed cannot leave us indifferent.”

The mayor also expressed full trust in the investigators and the police, who immediately took action to shed light on the incident and identify those responsible. «We are certain that there will be no tolerance towards those who sow fear and disorder. Cassano is a city that wants safety, legality and respect for the common good.”
