The number one in the world is already making a loud statement. Jannik Sinner flies to the round of 16 of the Australian Open. The American was beaten in three sets Marcos Giron 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in exactly two hours of play. At the end of the match, the South Tyrolean spoke about his journey in Melbourne. And it will be Holger Rune who will challenge the blue. In the last match of today’s program, the Danish tennis player, n.13 ATP and seeded, won in the third round over the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (51 ATP) with a score of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 4 -6, 6-4, 6-4.

The other races

Lorenzo Musetti’s journey at the Australian Open ends in the third round. The Italian was beaten in four sets by the American Ben Shelton who won with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. In the round of 16 Shelton will challenge Frenchman Gael Monfils. Same fate for Jasmine Paolinialso eliminated from the tournament. In the third round the Tuscan was beaten by the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina who won, in a comeback, with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.

It’s definitely better at Sonego who, for the first time in his career, reaches the second week of a Slam tournament. The 29-year-old tennis player from Turin, number 55 in the ATP ranking, has in fact qualified for the round of 16 in the first Slam of the season underway on the hard courts of Melbourne Park. The Italian came from behind to beat the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, 59th in the world rankings, in four sets in the third round with a score of 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6), 6-1, 6-2, after three hours and 16 minutes of play. For a place in the quarterfinals Sonego will face the 19-year-old American qualifier Learner Tien, 121st in the world ranking, who eliminated the Frenchman Corentin Moutet 7-6 (10), 6-3, 6-3.
