Alleanza Verdi Sinistra takes stock after the administrative vote of 24 and 25 May in Reggio Calabria and with the regional secretary of the Italian Left Fernando Pignataro launches an appeal «to the forces of the center left: either we change pace, or we think of going our own way».
A new political construction site for the alternative
The idea is to open a construction site involving all those Mayors who are tired, the associations, the movements, the political forces, the trade unions to reiterate that the alternative is possible, but it must be practiced. «We – added Pignataro – are strategically in the broad camp and in the progressive coalition. Everywhere and wherever you can. But now referentiality and self-preservation must be overcome. It’s time to start dealing with real society, starting from a strong opposition to the Region, starting from the institutions but also those in which the price of the lack of opposition is being paid. Talk about the right to health, to education, to mobility.”
Criticism of regional management and lack of opposition
According to Si’s regional secretary, “that’s not the way it goes. There hasn’t been the slightest bit of political reaction, not even after the regional elections, in organizing an opposition to this regional government and in the cities governed by the centre-right.” Leaving, therefore, he explains, dismantling the current narrative of the centre-right whose only real measure was the increase in the costs of politics, “but also saying what our proposals are starting from the Istat data which certifies, in all sectors of analysis, the failure of the regional government’s action”.
The vote in Reggio Calabria and the return of Demetrio Delfino
Regarding Reggio, Pignataro said that «an identity was rewarded, the presence of a political project and where the only innovation on the left was the election, or rather the return of Demetrio Delfino», the councilor elected in the Avs, present with Pignataro at the meeting with journalists. “He must be recognized for his courage in having put his face to it, in having made an effort in an election that was already marked” added the Si exponent.
