The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro Crotone Vibo Valentia Pietro Falbo expresses deep concern for the serious situation that has arisen in the last few hours following the fury of Cyclone Harry, which hit Calabria hard, particularly violently affecting the Ionian area of Crotone and Catanzaro and, significantly, the city of Catanzaro and its coastal strip.

A scenario of exceptional criticality for the territory

“The situation in the area concerned – says President Falbo – presents a scenario of exceptional criticality: storm surges that invaded the seafront, impetuous winds, incessant rain, flooding, trees felled, cars submerged and numerous commercial activities seriously damaged. A night of fear that put the stability of the area and the entire local economic fabric to the test. Fortunately – underlines the President – at present there does not appear to be any damage to people, and this is the aspect that heartens us the most.

Solidarity and support for damaged businesses

However, we cannot fail to express our strong apprehension for the heavy repercussions that this calamitous event is having and may have on businesses, economic operators and commercial activities, many of which are now facing structural damage, economic losses and the forced interruption of their operations. For all this, the Chamber of Commerce expresses its deep solidarity and closeness to the entire affected population and, in particular, to the entrepreneurs and workers who suddenly find themselves facing a serious and completely unexpected emergency situation.

Towards the restoration of operational normality

Businesses will not be left alone – says President Falbo, adding that – it is now essential to wait for the outcome of the findings and investigations by the competent authorities and bodies to understand exactly the extent of the damage and the number of activities involved, so as to be able to evaluate and implement effective, concrete and timely support actions, aimed at restoring operational normality and restarting businesses and the local economy. It will be the responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce – reassures President Falbo – to activate a direct and constant channel first and foremost with the Prefecture and the Civil Protection, in order to monitor the evolution of the situation and guarantee synergistic action by the Chamber of Commerce.

Thanks to the rescuers and institutional commitment

A heartfelt and dutiful thank you – adds President Falbo – I would like to address to the Calabria Region, the Prefecture, the Civil Protection, the police forces, the local police, the fire brigade and all the volunteers who, with great professionalism and spirit of service, have worked and continue to work tirelessly to alert as well as to help the population and businesses. In this particularly serious and difficult moment – concludes President Falbo – the Chamber of Commerce is there, confirming its role as an institutional safeguard alongside the territory, with the concrete commitment to contribute to overcoming this difficult phase of criticality”.
