The Prefecture is monitoring the situation
The Prefecture of Catanzaro constantly follows the evolution of bad weather, which is particularly intense along the Ionian coast. The warning of adverse weather conditions had already been issued on 30 October, with forecasts of intense and persistent thunderstorms.
There are 35 ordinances issued by the mayors of the province for the closure of schools and the protection of the population, while eight Municipalities have activated their respective Municipal Operations Centers (COC). In the meantime, traffic has been restored on the SS 106, in the sections between Cropani, Simeri Crichi, Sellia Marina and Belcastro, where the flooding of a torrent had caused severe slowdowns.
In the Marcedusa area, bad weather caused three Enel pylons to collapse, leaving some users without electricity, for which technicians are already working. In the Germaneto area of Catanzaro, lightning triggered a fire inside an agricultural estate: the flames were put out by the firefighters, but two people were slightly injured during the initial extinguishing operations.
The Prefecture continues to monitor storm phenomena in close collaboration with the mayors and the regional civil protection. At the moment there are no serious critical issues along the main arteries, but caution is recommended when traveling, particularly during the most intense phenomena, avoiding underpasses, embankments and bridges at risk of flooding.
