The analysis and reconnaissance of support needs in the Prefecture continues as a result of the new wave of bad weather which is also affecting the province of Catanzaro. The latest intense rainfall and strong gusts of wind, hitting an area already tested, have accentuated some landslide phenomena already underway, caused the fall of trees along the roadways and tore down some advertising signs.
Rescue and safety interventions
The teams of the Fire Brigade, the Police Force and the technical staff of Anas, of the various Municipalities and of the Province of Catanzaro are working tirelessly to guarantee the safety of citizens, remove obstacles, restore minimum traffic conditions and secure the most affected areas. The observation of the most critical points remains constant, in particular in areas subject to flooding and near watercourses, underpasses and areas at hydrogeological risk.
Focus on the critical issues of provincial roads
Among the most critical situations is the closure of the section of the Marcellinara – Tiriolo provincial road, as a consequence of a landslide, with recourse to alternative roads however highly exposed to the impact of the transit of heavy vehicles carrying in particular students and for which a temporary limitation of passage is being considered only during the times useful for accessing and exiting schools.
A similar landslide affected the provincial road which in the Pentone area allows you to reach the communities of “Presila” where the ban on road traffic implied, in this case too, the diversion of traffic flows onto secondary roads. Critical issues on the SS 18 in the Nocera Terinese area for which Anas has ensured rapid resolution times.
Technical assessments and traffic management
Anas and Provincial technicians are working to determine the nature of the landslide in these points (whether “flow” or other nature) for the most appropriate actions, even temporary ones. With respect to the road sections closed to traffic or with limitation of the direction of travel, an enhancement of the surveillance service has been prepared by the Police Force with the provision of suitable information signs.
Rescue coordination and continuous monitoring
“We are in close contact at the CCS – Traffic Operations Center – declared the Prefect Castrese De Rosa – with all the components, in order to limit inconvenience to citizens and intervene immediately with the “highest urgency”, as soon as the weather conditions allow it, to deal with the most critical situations on the provincial roads”.
The monitoring will continue in the next few days to evaluate the impact of the numerous landslides and mudslides which are mainly affecting internal areas and secondary roads.
