«I inform the population that we are carrying out inspections along the valley of the Coscile stream, upstream from Apollinara, where the level of the Coscile is high and has flooded in at least one point. The water could reach the town of Apollinara. As a precaution, we therefore order the safety and evacuation of the houses on the left side, going towards the valley, of the Sp178 (via Lake Iseo, via Lake Como and further on) and the houses along the provincial road also upstream from Apollinara, until as Civil Protection we are sure that the flooding will not affect the town”. The mayor of Corigliano-Rossano, Flavio Stasi, wrote this in a post on Facebook. “Maximum attention is necessary for the entire town of Apollinara”, remarks the mayor.

Mayor Rossano: sieve embankment

«The Crati embankment is a sieve». The mayor of Corigliano Rossano, Flavio Stasi, made this known on his Facebook profile by publishing photos of an inspection carried out in the areas most affected by the Crati flood, which also occurred in some places in the Corigliano Rossano area. «We intervened – he explained – on the first five sections of the collapsed embankment and we are intervening on the sixth. We are strengthening the stretch behind the town of Thurio, where we had already intervened in 2021, avoiding a first collapse. We are avoiding others, given that in recent years eight million euros have remained ignobly stagnant. We are protecting the banks upstream of Apollinara, both the right and left sides, in sections reported dozens of times, before the worst happens. The embankment is a sieve: it can collapse anywhere. We are moving the water away from homes, businesses, roads with ditches and canals, and restoring roads carried into the sea, until night. This is the time to recreate security and we are taking care of it, but we need immediate relief for families and companies who have simply lost everything, and we don’t just need to put the money for safety: we need to give it to those who know how to use it.” Since Friday, several families residing in the areas where the Crati flooded have been evacuated.
