Denis Bergamini was killed with a scarf or a bag and only then laid on the asphalt where he was hit by the truck. This was stated by the magistrates of the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor’s Office who this morning began their closing argument – which will be concluded tomorrow – in the trial against Isabella Internò, Bergamini’s ex-girlfriend accused of voluntary homicide in complicity in the death of the Cosenza footballer which occurred along state road 106 in Roseto Capo Spulico on 18 November 1989.
“Today – said the public prosecutor of Castrovillari Alessandro D’Alessio opening the closing speech – we will deal with the reconstruction of the fact, how Bergamini was killed and what are the elements that led to the death. Tomorrow we will deal with the defendant”.
After D’Alessio, the prosecutor Luca Primicerio intervened and went into the merits of the reconstruction. «The forensic medical experts who carried out the examinations on Bergamini’s body in 2017 – he said – tell us that the footballer was the victim of violent mechanical asphyxiation, before Raffaele Pisano’s truck (the driver of the truck under which the body was found, ed.) overtook him. Therefore, the versions of Internò and Pisano are false. Bergamini was already dead before the truck arrived».
“In 2017 – Primicerio said – 101 samples were taken and the experts shared all the activities, including the one on the giocophorin test. All the experts’ tests speak of compatibility of Bergamini’s body with compression asphyxia with a soft means, probably a scarf or a bag that may not leave marks on the neck”.
The prosecutor then denied Internò’s theory that Bergamini had dived under the truck. “The body was lying on the ground,” the prosecutor reiterated. The trial will resume tomorrow with the conclusion of the closing argument and the prosecution’s request.
