A talented and brilliant actor. Son of a land that has given the seventh art, as well as literature, poetry and painting, amazing characters. Alessio Praticò, originally from Reggio, won the award for best actor at the “Inventa un film” Festival held every year in Lenola. Praticò was the protagonist of a “short” – “La mia escort” – by the director Alessandro Porzio. The short film also won the awards for best direction and best actress with Angela Curri.
The Calabrian actor, who has a degree in architecture from the “Mediterranea” in Reggio, is deeply connected to his places of origin and we met him in the capital of Bruzio where he was walking around the historic center admiring ancient patrician buildings and centuries-old churches.
“My love for Calabria,” says the award-winning artist, “is very deep and finally, now, I’m back and I’ll be here for several weeks to enjoy the energies of this land. For me it’s always a place to recharge my batteries and prepare for the year to come.”
Praticò, who will receive the “Law, Culture and Information” Award from the Bar Association Council in Palmi on August 12, has just finished filming an international series on the Amalfi Coast and another series for Rai Due in the Treviso area.
“They will be released in the fall. The situation for the entertainment world and, in particular, cinema is difficult, there are still funds blocked and we hope that after the summer everything can start up again”.
The actor has played dozens of characters over the years, but the one he has remained deeply attached to is the Milanese philosopher of the 1920s, Remo Cantoni. “It was my first role in a feature film, taken on immediately after graduating from the school in Genoa. I had to learn the Milanese accent, it was an unforgettable experience.”
But what is Praticò’s literary connection with Calabria?
“In Calabria there are prodigious authors from whom we should all draw more: I think of Tommaso Campanella, but also of Saverio Strati, Corrado Alvaro, Leonida Répaci. I would like more to be done with their works and, unfortunately, this does not always happen.”
The career of the architect lent to the “seventh art” is truly significant: in 2018 he was one of the protagonists of the series “Il cacciatore”, directed by Stefano Lodovichi and Davide Marengo, in the role of Enzo Salvatore Brusc. The same year he played the role of Salvo, one of the protagonists of the series “Il miracolo” by Niccolò Ammaniti, directed by Francesco Munzi, Lucio Pellegrini and Ammaniti himself. He subsequently starred in the series “Trust” by Oscar winner Danny Boyle which tells the story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III.
In 2019 he appeared in the film “Lo spietato” by Renato De Maria alongside Riccardo Scamarcio and in “Il traditore” by Marco Bellocchio, with Pierfrancesco Favino.
In 2022 he was among the protagonists of the series “Blocco 181” directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, Matteo Bonifazio and Ciro Visco. Also in 2022 we find him in the fourth season of the cult series “Boris”, directed by Giacomo Ciarrapico and Luca Vendruscolo. In the same year he is the antagonist of Alessandro Gassman in the film “Il mio nome è vendetta”. In January 2023 we find him in the series “Il nostro generale”, with Sergio Castellitto.
