An invisible thread combines the femicide of Graziella Recovery19 year old killed on June 26, 1956 in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto e Sara Campanella22 years old killed on March 31, 2025 in Messina. Both students, the first was about to face the high school exams and the second was one step away from the degree. Both stabbed to death on the street, from peers. The two stories, divided from 69 years of time but united by the violence against women who do not stop, are at the center of the web series “Invisible threads” with the direction of Fabio Schifilliti as part of the “Oltra le shadow” project of the Itt-Lssa Copernico of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. Partner of Copernicus is the Gran Mirma Film, administered by Giuseppe Ministeri, who is making the web series with the effective collaboration of the University of Messina (thanks to the great sensitivity of the rector Giovanna Spatari), the Municipality of Rì Milici and the ATM of Messina. The students and students of Copernicus have been involved as an active part and protagonist in all phases of the project, from the drafting of the text to the choice of the casting to the production and recovery activities. A shared path that saw the young people involved in facing the dramatic themes of gender -based violence through two stories that occurred in Messina and which demonstrate how the decades has not changed anything.
To play the role of the professor that Sara met just before being killed is the actor Claudio Castrogiovanni who in recent days shot the scenes at the University Hospital of Messina together with the students. Filming continued on board the buses made available to the ATM and in the municipality of Rodì Milici where the last days of Graziella recovery were reconstructed. The history of the 19 -year -old Barcelona, to whom the killer continued to send letters and poems despite having been repeatedly rejected and then stabbed it on the street ended for too many years in oblivion. The young people of the Copernicus Institute are now riding her voice followed with great professionalism by the director Fabio Schifilliti (who already with the film Omamyma has turned on the spotlight on femicide) and by a staff of technicians and experts who accompanied the classes in the film laboratory.
In the web series through Sara, Graziella is told and vice versa, focusing on those “invisible threads” that combine two broken lives. The “Beyond the Shadows” project is part of the Cinema and Images Call for the School of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit.
