The story of Rex, a German shepherd dog, is a tale of pain, hope and determination that has involved Elvira, his owner, and her daughter Marika, for over seven years. The story began when Elvira, resident in Bisignano, decided to move to Germany, bringing her beloved dog Rex with her. After a few months of adaptation, due to personal commitments, Elvira had to temporarily entrust the dog to a facility in Passau, convinced it was an animal shelter.
Unfortunately, not speaking German, she found herself relying on a facility that, instead of taking care of Rex, sent him to a kennel. When Elvira discovered the truth, she immediately tried to recover her dog, but Rex was now missing. Initially, there were no traces, but Elvira never lost hope, continuing the search. Years pass, but no news about the dog. However, a few months ago, an adoption announcement brought hope back: Elvira recognized Rex in the photo and decided to investigate. Addressing the facility and the German authorities, he discovered with disbelief that the dog had been put down, as it was deemed dangerous.
But the Italian Association for the Protection of Animals and the Environment (Aidaa) takes the case to heart and, after a thorough investigation, discovers that Rex was never legally transferred to others and is still registered to Marika. This raises doubts about the official version given by the German structure. The animal rights activists of Aidaa, convinced that the truth must emerge, have decided to intervene by filing a criminal complaint with the Italian and German authorities, to try to shed light on Rex’s fate. They maintain that Elvira has the right to have her dog back and, if it emerges that Rex was illegally put down, they will fight to ensure that those who caused this are held accountable. The battle for justice continues: Rex must return home.
