It was an act of courage that pushed a young woman of Brazilian origins to denounce the nightmare she had experienced for months. Thanks to the intervention of the Carabinieri of the Bova Marina station, the person responsible was hit with an order for the application of a precautionary measure issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Reggio Calabria consisting of a ban on approaching the victim and her boyfriend, with the imposition of the electronic bracelet.
The young man, who was just a friend to the girl, transformed his friendship into a real nightmare. Starting from the beginning of last year, he began to torment her with anonymous phone calls, obsessive messages on social media and even stakeouts outside her house, fueled by an inexplicable jealousy and a morbid obsession for the young woman. The situation, now unsustainable, pushed the girl to turn to the Carabinieri, who launched a rapid investigation, gathering evidence of a long series of persecutory acts.
The psychological violence, death threats and repeated attempts to destroy the young woman’s romantic relationship with her boyfriend have created a climate of unsustainable anxiety and fear. The episodes, culminating in a physical assault that occurred on December 22, when the suspect, in an evident state of intoxication, injured the girl’s boyfriendconfirmed the extreme danger of the young man.
The investigation conducted by the Carabinieri revealed an alarming picture of harassment and intimidation, highlighting the serious psychological and physical suffering suffered by the victim. Thanks to the statements of the girl, her boyfriend and the meticulous investigative activity, it was possible to gather elements that led to the immediate application of the precautionary measure.
The suspect, who now has to deal with justice, will have to respect the ban on approaching less than 500 meters from the victim and her environment, and will no longer be able to come into contact with the girl in any way. Despite the provision, the principle of not guilty applies to the suspect until the final sentence.
