«If at the hearing on 29 October the doubts of legitimacy are not overcome, the government, through its ministries and the Strait of Messina, will have to re-evaluate the decisions taken and implement all the necessary corrective measures, anticipating all the studies already subject to prescription by the Via Vas commission (and which can no longer be postponed!) and admitting that the acceleration given to the updating of the project and the emergency decree do not give guarantees and certainties to the territories”. This was stated by the mayor of Villa San Giovanni Giusy Caminiti, commenting on the findings of the Court of Auditors at the Strait Bridge.
For the mayor, there is “nothing new” in the findings of the Court which “already in September had raised the same doubts of legitimacy on the Cipess resolution approving the definitive project of the bridge. Evidently the additions produced by the ministries, with the support of the Stretto di Messina company, were not considered sufficiently exhaustive and such as to go beyond the profiles on which the Court of Auditors is called upon to rule. This administration has already commented on those first findings, pointing out how some of them (those in documents before the Cipess resolution) had been placed as the basis of the appeal and the subsequent additional reasons presented to the Lazio Regional Administrative Court by the city of Villa San Giovanni and the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria”.
«The careful and scrupulous examination of the judges in this very important phase (because the stamping would give the go-ahead to expropriations) – concludes Giusy Caminiti – can only relieve those of us who up to now have objected to the procedure and highlighted the issues relating to compliance with community directives for the protection of the environment».
