«Reggio Calabria will become the protagonist of what will be the destinies of the centre-right. The city becomes the center of national politics. In the Monteleone room of the Regional Council, packed for the occasion and in the presence, among others, of local administrators, local mayors, councillors, regional councilors and parliamentarians, Roscioli spoke together with the president of the Region, Roberto Occhiuto and the mayor of Reggio Calabria, Francesco Cannizzaro. «There are those who will try to make us lose votes – observed Roscioli – but I believe in teamwork and in coalition. Proof of this is the presence of the representatives of the other political forces to whom I extend my thanks.” Roscioli also thanked the national leaders of the coalition parties. Regarding his candidacy he explained: «When Occhiuto and Cannizzaro offered me to help the area, for these few months remaining until the end of the legislature, I thought about it a bit and decided to accept, to continue doing what I already naturally do for this area and for them, to whom I have my unconditional respect». «You already have a very notable presence in the area», he said, referring to the president of the Region and the mayor of Reggio Calabria, «and I offer to act as a bridge with respect to their projects». Roscioli then made a point of specifying how his candidacy proposal was “also accepted by our national secretary, therefore by Forza Italia”.
