The next city council of Vibo Valentiascheduled for Saturday at 9am, will address a topic of great importance: the recognition of an off-balance sheet debt relating to the controversial “Cadi srl” affair. An important legal issue which saw the Municipality succumb in a long proceeding, with a decidedly significant amount compared to the budget resources available.

Despite the large sum owed, the mayor Enzo Romeo wanted to highlight a positive aspect in this complex situation. In a statement released ahead of the session, Romeo underlined the fruits of the intense and numerous meetings held with the counterpart, which led to a significant reduction in the amount initially foreseen.

“Without going into the merits of the very long affair, which has spanned decades and many courtrooms, I want here to express satisfaction with how the numerous meetings held with the opposing party and its representative ended, following which the Municipality of Vibo Valentia managed to obtain a significant reduction in the amount owed,” the mayor said. “For this reason I can only thank the counterpart for the availability shown, as well as the offices for the important work carried out.”

Romeo also underlined that, despite the reduced amount, the resources previously set aside by the Municipality were not sufficient to cover the debt, a situation which, in his opinion, had been represented in a careless manner by the former administrators. “In light of the ongoing settlement negotiations, I can today maintain that the overall payment of the huge sum will not compromise the budget balance”, concluded the mayor, expressing optimism for the financial future of the Municipality.

The recognition of this debt, which will be discussed in the next session, represents a crucial step for the Municipality of Vibo Valentia, with the aim of definitively closing an affair that has profoundly affected the administrative management of recent years.
