A catastrophic situation already reported months ago and in the public domain regarding the Calabria mail sorting centre, located in Lamezia Terme, has today been joined by the decision by the Company to cut precarious workers whose contracts are expiring, who guarantee a good part of the coverage of the sector’s vacancies.
The regional secretariat of the Slp Cisl Calabriapointing out that the overall cut of over 40% of these resources (in some areas even 100%), puts the service at risk throughout the region where the organic coverage in some areas barely exceeds 60%.
It is also worth noting the injustice done to these “disposable” workers who, due to these failed contract renewals, in addition to the increasingly serious social hardship, will be penalized in a future possibility of permanent employment to cover a staff shortage that, over time, is becoming increasingly important.
“We have paid attention and protested with the company management so that they intervene by providing for to ensure a sufficient and decent service not only with respect to active personnelwho will be called upon to perform no longer manageable tasks, but also and above all towards the Calabrians, who, according to these decisions, are not respected as is appropriate in a State that should guarantee its citizens an efficient service throughout the national territory”.
