High tension river session yesterday in the Regional Council. And if the marathon on the programmatic lines illustrated by governor Occhiuto were not enough, the room stayed up until the wee hours on the changes – proposed by the majority – to the Statute of the Region which allow the president to appoint two more councilors (expanding the Council to 9) and two undersecretaries, a figure brought to light from the drawers of politics.
Technically, this is the transposition of national legislation which allows Regions with a population of between 1 and 2 million – this is the case of Calabria – to increase the Council from 7 to a maximum of 9 members. A provision that “gives oxygen” to Occhiuto, who with the appointments already “in the pipeline” could settle a few boxes in a partially dissatisfied majority (We Moderates) or with reduced representation (Lega).
