Many of the world’s most popular apps, including Snapchat, Duolingo and Roblox, have been blocked, due to what appears to be an issue affecting Amazon Web Services. The BBC reports it.
According to reports collected by the British media, the consequences and disruptions linked to the IT crash of Amazon Web Services (AWS), a company of the American giant Amazon which provides key services for the functioning of numerous apps and websites, are spreading like wildfire. In the United Kingdom alone, the sites of leading banks such as Barclays, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland are involved, among others, but also of institutions such as HMRC, the British equivalent of the Revenue Agency, which many users indicate as unreachable. Furthermore, popular apps such as Snapchat, Duolingo or Roblox, which all use IT infrastructures provided by AWS, remain down: the latter has confirmed the problem, reporting that technical interventions are underway to try to resolve it.
The website downdetector.com, which takes into account the disservices of online platforms around the world, also recorded the downtime of several platforms that rely on Amazon’s cloud. The difficulties, as many international sites report including the New York Times, are due to the problems affecting Amazon Web Services (Aws), the cloud computing service on which the sites and platforms that are currently experiencing problems are based. From downdetecor.com, however, it can be seen that various services are returning to normal. The malfunction also affects Italy for apps such as Canva, Perplexity and the gaming platforms Roblox, Clash Royale, Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars. In the United States there are also problems with crunchyroll, Fortnite, Snapchat, ring and many other sites, including the video streaming platforms max and Prime Video.
