Carabinieri checks in the Vibonese area on compliance with the legislation on the protection of health and safety in the workplace. In recent days, the soldiers of the stations dependent on the companies of Vibo Valentia and Serra San Bruno, with the support of the Labor Inspectorate Unit of Vibo Valentia and, in one case, of the Spisal staff of the ASP of Vibo Valentia, carried out a series of checks in various commercial establishments and on a construction site.

Checks in two premises in Vibo Valentia

In the capital, during an inspection visit to a bar-ice cream shop-restaurant, the military ascertained the presence of two workers who were found to be irregular due to violations linked to obligations regarding health and safety in the workplace, non-compliances attributable to the responsibility of the employer.

In a further check carried out at a bar in the city centre, the installation of a video surveillance system without the required authorizations was also found. The equipment was suitable for filming the workplace, in violation of the regulations established by the Workers’ Statute on audiovisual systems and remote control instruments.

During the investigations, violations relating to the employer’s obligations and the training of workers and their representatives were also contested. The owners of the two businesses were handed over in a state of freedom to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Vibo Valentia for the criminal violations found.

Undeclared worker on a construction site in Serra San Bruno

In Serra San Bruno the Carabinieri of the local station, together with the soldiers of the Vibo Valentia Labor Inspectorate Unit and the Spisal staff of the ASP, carried out an inspection on a construction site. During the inspection, the presence of an illegal worker was ascertained.

For this violation, the Labor Inspectorate Unit ordered the immediate suspension of business activity limited to the construction site subject to inspection. In the same context, Spisal staff detected further violations of the legislation on safety in the workplace, proceeding to refer the owner to the judicial authority. Overall, fines of 800 euros and administrative sanctions of 7,000 euros were imposed.

Two other workers without contracts

A further commercial business in the Vibonese area was finally subjected to verification. Also in this case the presence of two workers without contracts was ascertained. The owner was administratively sanctioned with a fine of approximately 7,000 euros.

It should be noted that the criminal proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase and that the presumption of innocence applies to the suspects until a possible irrevocable sentence is reached.
