“A moment perhaps long awaited and it has finally arrived.” With these words the mayor of Cassano, Iacobini, announced the revocation of the ordinance which prohibited access to the town center in the Sibari area, hit by two floods in the space of eleven days.

The technical checks carried out in the last few hours have confirmed what was already anticipated: starting from 12pm on Friday 25 February, residents will be allowed to return to their homes to check the state of the places and start counting the damage.

Return allowed, but with requirements

The mayor spoke of “minimum safety conditions” achieved, such as to allow the revocation of the measure and the restoration of accessibility denied up to now. At the same time he invited the population to respect some fundamental requirements.

Among the main indications, the invitation not to travel along roads that have not yet been completely restored, not to use the piers and, above all, not to navigate along the same roads for obvious safety reasons.

“We really did our utmost to ensure that this moment arrived – declared Iacobini – and we apologize right now if everything does not go as it should. There is still something to do and we will do it in the next few days”.

Thanks to the forces involved

The mayor then thanked the police and all those involved in the emergency and recovery operations: carabinieri, state police, financial police, coast guard, firefighters, regional civil protection, associations and technicians of the companies involved.

A special thought was also addressed to the citizens, for the patience and collaboration shown during the most difficult days. “In the coming weeks – concluded Iacobini – we will be even closer to the community to accompany the return to normality”.
