Gaetano Fontana is a privileged and attentive observer of Catanzaro: a former Giallorossi player and always involved in the work, now that he is a coach, but above all a Catanzaro and fan. «If I can’t follow it directly, the first thought is the result. And then with Polito we worked together in Castellammare, his presence there strengthens my interest. In short, he always follows him even if in silence and at a distance. Now I go around a lot to watch matches and training sessions, I’ve had offers and I hope the time to return to the bench comes soon”, explains the 55-year-old who led Gubbio to Serie C last season.

What are your thoughts on the Giallorossi?
«While maintaining a gaming philosophy, when you change so much it’s natural to run into problems. But if there is work, the result will come, you just need to have patience and tenacity. The company was good at going beyond the criticism, now the results give Aquilani a hand.”

Where can Catanzaro get to?
«A lot depends on the growth of the strong young players he has in his squad. He had the courage to go and get them to insert them into a complicated context like B, Polito was able to find them. It’s obvious to pay a bit of a price at the beginning, especially in a city and with a demanding club, but if they respond in line with the characteristics they possess, and find continuity in the league, Catanzaro will be able to have fun for the next 2-3 years, although I hope they can do it straight away. It would be nice to relive the Serie A years.”
