A 27-year-old Turkish national went to the Immigration Office in recent days to request a residence permit for international protection. During the investigations it emerged that the young man, already burdened by previous convictions for crimes against property and against the person committed in Italy, has an international arrest warrant issued by the Hungarian authorities this year.
At the same time, further checks were carried out by the personnel of the Provincial Office of the Scientific Police and the Flying Squad, the foreigner was arrested and taken to the Siano prison at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
The arrest is particularly significant as the foreigner is suspected of being the leader of an organised criminal group dedicated to assisting foreigners in illegally crossing the borders of European countries in the year 2022.
The proceedings against the foreigner are pending before the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro.
