US Catanzaro secures a highly experienced goalkeeper: Mirko Pigliacelli arrives permanently from Palermo, Roman born in 1993, with almost 380 appearances behind him between Serie B (he wore the shirts of Sassuolo, Pescara, Reggina, Frosinone, Trapani, Pro Vercelli) and the top Romanian championship (four seasons and 166 appearances for Universitatea Craiova, in addition to a goal from a penalty kick). After his experience in Liga 1, Pigliacelli returned to Italy to defend the goal of Palermo, a team with which he has collected 78 appearances in the last two seasons.
The new Giallorossi goalkeeper is therefore used to the hottest places: «I have travelled a lot, but honestly when I had the chance to come to Catanzaro there was little to think about. When I played at Ceravolo it was exciting. I immediately felt the warmth of the place also with the messages on social media, but also the strong desire of the director and the owners to have me here. I am extremely happy». Pigliacelli also talks about his new relationship with Iemmello: «I have played several times against the captain, now I am happy to be in the team together: I have already spoken with Pietro, he told me something, I can’t wait to start and I hope to make the people of Catanzaro happy». Speaking to the club, Pigliacelli describes himself, in terms of character, as “a very simple person, who always makes himself available and is dedicated to work”, while from a technical point of view he tries to best interpret a role that has changed a lot over the years: “I like playing football in the true sense of the word – says Pigliacelli – I’m not a goalkeeper who stands still waiting for the shot, I try to be a support to the team, to provide a solution, to bring the game out from the bottom”.
The passion for that role is a family tradition for Pigliacelli, who grew up in the Roma youth team, with whom he also won a Primavera championship: «My father and my uncle played in goal, when I was little I chose to be a goalkeeper too, they explained to me that it is a particular role, and perhaps this is what convinced me.». Pigliacelli is joining the Giallorossi club with a two-year contract. «I am sure I can give a hand to the team and to this club. I think I will make myself available in everything as I have always done in my career, but especially now that I have gained so much experience», concludes Pigliacelli, who addresses the Giallorossi fans: «I can’t wait to see you at the stadium and rejoice together!».
