In politics there are times when it is no longer possible to remain in a gray area. Either you are on one side or you are on the other. Either we are consistent with the mandate received from the centre-right voters, or we make a different choice, which must be declared with transparency.” This is what Marco Polimeni, regional councilor and provincial secretary of Forza Italia, states in a note regarding the no-confidence vote against mayor Nicola Fiorita.

I address a public, serious and respectful appeal to councilor Manuela Costanzo – the only Forzisti not to have signed the no-confidence vote in the municipal administration: it’s time for clarity. Forza Italia has taken a clear political line with respect to the ongoing administrative experience. It is a line shared by the leaders of the centre-right parties, in line with our origins and the choices we will have to make in the future. There can be no ambiguity when the credibility of our political community is at stake. Coherence is not an abstract word: it is the foundation of the relationship of trust with citizens. Voters would not understand hesitant or different attitudes compared to the official position of the party. Those who are part of Forza Italia are called to respect its decisions and internal hierarchies, because only in this way can the strength of the political action we represent be protected. Individual choices inevitably have political consequences. This is why I find myself forced to ask my colleague for a step of clarity and dignity: if she does not add her signature to the document already deposited by the notary she will no longer be able to be part of our political project. In this delicate transition, Forza Italia will continue to move with firmness, coherence and sense of institutions, in the only interest that guides us: that of the city and its citizens.”
