A more dynamic or reasoning midfield? In the last few matches Catanzaro has alternated the two registers both due to technical choice and the availability of the players. In Empoli, for example, Petriccione left room for Buglio also because shortly before the race he had felt a muscle problem: the two were in the run-off, but the discomfort influenced Aquilani’s decision even more, who generally prefers not to risk those who are not at their best. This time the department is complete and the range of solutions is the widest possible to face Pescara on Friday evening.
It is not certain that the duel for a starting place still concerns Petriccione and Buglio, who can play together as happened in Mantua. In the evaluations there are also and above all Pontisso and Rispoli, Alesi a little more secluded. The tasks required at the midline will also depend on the interpreters selected. Petriccione, now fully recovered, is the playmaker in the classic sense of the word: he sets the tone for the team and knows how to raise or lower the tempo better than the others. These are functions that everyone in the department knows how to do, but if the thirty-year-old is on a day, the Giallorossi system enhances him and vice versa.
With Petriccione, Pontisso and Rispoli Aquilani would have the highest coefficient of quality and geometry, as was demonstrated by the trio in the first half of the match against Palermo: when the trio took the lead the rosanero were in vain. Against the Sicilians at half-time Buglio came on in place of Petriccione, the deliveries changed without decreasing the effectiveness of a team that, having gained the advantage, had more to defend and restart than attack and manage possession.
