This morning the carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Cosenza arrested Luca Occhiuzzirecipient of a precautionary custody order in prison issued by the investigating judge of Catanzaro. THE‘Man was sought for attempted murder aggravated by the mafia method, detention and abusive firearm port, as well as for extortion and personal injury, always with the aggravating mafia.
Occhiuzzi had escaped arrest since 15 September 2022, when the ordinance had been performed against four other suspects. The investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri of Scalea and Paola under the coordination of the DDA of Catanzaro, concerned an episode in June 2021: The attempted murder of a bouncer of a night club in Belvedere Marittimo, who had opposed an extortion request by Occhiuzzi and three other accomplices, who claimed to consume alcohol without paying.
The authorities considered that the crimes were committed by exploiting the typical intimidation of mafia organizations. After more than two years of hiding, Occhiuzzi was located and arrested in a home in the historic center of Cetraro, thanks to the investigations coordinated by the DDA of Catanzaro.
