In the early afternoon of 20 April 2026, the Carabinieri of the Cirò Marina Company carried out a provision suspending alternative measures against a local man, already known to the police and subjected to house detention.
The decision of the judicial authority
The decree, issued by the Criminal Enforcement Office of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone, ordered the revocation of house arrest and the transfer of the man to prison. The monitoring activity carried out by the military personnel was behind the decision.
The man was in fact serving his sentence in the same building as the victims of the crimes committed, a situation considered incompatible and potentially dangerous for the safety of the offended people.
The facts of 2025
The original arrest dates back to 11 March 2025, when the man became the protagonist of a violent action linked to extortion purposes against some family members. Armed with a 9mm pistol, he broke into a construction site, attacking one of the victims and firing several shots.
Only the presence of a video surveillance system allowed those present to avoid more serious consequences, allowing them to dodge the shots until the police intervened.
Transfer to prison
In light of the seriousness of the alleged crimes – including attempted murder, attempted extortion and illegal possession of weapons – and the risk situation ascertained, the judicial authority ordered his immediate imprisonment.
At the end of the formalities, the man was transferred to the Crotone prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
