Sacrilegious break-in in the mother church of Cirò Marina dedicated to San Cataldo Bishop. Unknown persons entered the building of worship by forcing one of the two side doors on the main facade. Which opens onto the central Piazza Diaz. One or more criminals limited themselves to opening the tabernacle of the main altar and the side one: evidently, in search of the consecrated hosts. A despicable and senseless act. The Church of San Cataldo has been closed and off-limits to the public for some time as it has been undergoing renovation work and securing the roof for several months. Unfortunately, in the past, the Church of San Cataldo itself was the subject of sacrilegious acts following which a new consecration of the place of worship was carried out. The workers noticed the most unwelcome “visit” on Monday morning at the reopening of the construction site of the “Varano” company; the owner reported the incident to the carabinieri of the Cirò Marina Company directed by Captain Martina Iacono. The military is checking the cameras of the video surveillance systems which will be used to determine whether the break-in occurred last night or the previous night.
