Today, at approximately 11.10 am, the Operations Room of SUEM 118 reported the presence of two people who had lost their orientation in the locality of Zomaro, in the municipality of Cittanova (RC).
The Operations Room of the Fire Brigade therefore ordered the dispatch of two teams from the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, coming from the Monasterace and Polistena detachments, to start the search and rescue operations.
Given the dense vegetation of the affected area and the difficulties of identification, the support of the Flight Department of Lamezia Terme was requested. The Drago VF 67 helicopter, which arrived in the area, identified the missing thanks to coordination with the Operations Room and invited people to move to an area without vegetation to allow better identification.
Subsequently, using a winch, the crew recovered the two hikers, transporting them to a safe place in the municipal area of Cittanova.
The recovered people were in good condition and declared that they did not require medical interventions.
