The 19-year-old Daniel Pietrafitta, arrested yesterday by the Carabinieri on charges of organizing unauthorized speed competitions with motor vehicles and participating in races, availed himself of the right not to answer before the investigating judge of Barcelona”.
The young man is believed to be the organizer of the clandestine moped race which took place on the night between 8 and 9 September on the Marchesana seafront in Terme Vigliatore. He himself with his scooter hit a 17-year-old spectator who is still hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Messina Polyclinic.
The images from the cameras in the area, the videos posted on social media and numerous testimonies have framed him. Pietrafitta had obtained house arrest from the investigating judge with the application of an electronic bracelet but due to the lack of the device he was locked up in the Barcelona prison.
Tomorrow, however, the bracelet will be applied to him and he will be able to return home. His lawyer, Diego Lanza, has already challenged the investigating judge’s order, contesting the role assigned to his client. According to the defender Daniel Pietrafitta not only was he not the organizer of the clandestine race but he was not competing at the time he caused the accident. For this reason, a road accident expert was appointed to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident.
