The US Secret Service has increased security measures around Donald Trump after receiving information about an Iranian plot to assassinate him, CNN reports. The plan has nothing to do with the Butler attack, sources said. Iran has repeatedly threatened revenge for the U.S. military’s killing of Qasem Soleimanicommander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in January 2020. And all senior Trump administration officials who worked on national security have benefited from tight security measures since leaving their posts. The Secret Service spokesman, Anthony Guglielmini, the day after the attack on the tycoon had spoken of a recent reinforcement of his security detail without specifying the reason.
The denial
Iran denies plotting to assassinate former US President Donald Trump after CNN reported that the US received intelligence in recent weeks that Tehran was seeking to avenge the killing of a high-ranking general.
In a statement to Reuters, Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York said that “these accusations are baseless and malicious.”
“From the perspective of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be tried and punished in a court of law for ordering the assassination of General Soleimani. Iran has chosen the legal path to bring him to justice,” Iran’s statement read.
