«Communications to the city». Mayor Federico Basile chooses this formula to announce the long-awaited press conference in which everything will be revealed, in which the torment that has been going on since the end of October will come to a first – but not definitive – conclusion: resignation or not? Tomorrow morning, at 10, the mayor will speak, it is not yet clear whether with him there will also be the leader of South calls North, Cateno De Luca, indicated by many as the one who has really decided what will happen in the coming weeks and months in Messina.
De Luca himself, after his umpteenth trip to Rome, sent messages: «Will he resign or not? The only certainty there is at this moment is that Mayor Basile will hold a press conference to communicate his decision, so the city will know the reasons for not resigning or the reasons for resigning. To this day, the mayor and his team have continued to work tirelessly without pause and without hesitation. We witnessed the “festival of unrest” and the “festival of unsolicited advice”, but what struck me most was the choral and unanimous position taken by the centre-right and centre-left oppositions in the city council: mayor, you must not resign! But it is the same oppositions who, despite being on opposite sides, are united in attacking the municipal administration and voting unitedly against the city! Only in Messina can we witness a paradox of this kind: the opposition (now a majority in the city council) asking the mayor (who has been in the minority for two years) not to resign. we are free and strong and no one can pull us out of the jacket, whatever choice is communicated will be a choice made in the interest of the city of Messina.” Phrases between whose lines we can glimpse some of what, barring twists and turns, could be the reasons given for the resignation.
While waiting for official news (but it should be remembered that in the event of resignation there will be twenty days to reconsider), potential adversaries observe and act.
