Corigliano Rossano, Foggia district isolated and without protection

When an entire district remains hostage to water and neglect, it is not the rain that creates emergencies but the absence of territorial governance. This is what the Foggia district is experiencing, where for days dozens of families have found themselves isolated, without the possibility of reaching schools, workplaces or essential services.

Flooded road and paralyzed community

The situation is denounced by Giuseppe Malagrinò, of the Territory Movement (MDT) with Pasqualina Straface. The only access route to the district – he states – is completely flooded and impassable. A road just two kilometers long which, due to lack of maintenance of the gullies and dangerous proximity to the Crati, has turned into an insurmountable obstacle. It is absurd that in 2025 forty families will have to remain isolated in this way.

Kids at home, parents stuck and jobs at risk

The discomfort is profound and all-encompassing. Children cannot attend school, parents cannot reach work and even emergency vehicles encounter difficulties in accessing the area. We are not talking about an unexpected event – he adds – but about an almost structured announced inconvenience. Families had reported the problem several times. The Administration gave no response. She turned away as always.

There is a lack of planning and responsibility

According to the Territory Movement, the situation represents yet another demonstration of superficial land management. It is unacceptable – he underlines – that no one from the municipal administration, from the Mayor to the Councillors, showed up to check the conditions of the district. The isolation of dozens of citizens cannot be considered an ordinary event. We need planning, we need prevention, we need interest in peripheral areas. Here, however, we only see silence and delays.

The request

The movement headed by the regional councilor Pasqualina Straface therefore asks for urgent and targeted measures ranging from the immediate cleaning of the gullies to the safety of the two kilometers of road, ending with the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance scheduled over time. We don’t need great works – he continues – but simply the attention that every community deserves. Because emergencies are avoided, not talked about.

Dignity to all the forgotten areas

We will continue to listen and give citizens a voice. Contrada Foggia is the emblem of a city where entire areas are left without protection. Our work – concludes Malagrinò – will be to bring dignity, security and attention back to all the communities that today live in the shadow of indifference.
