“I condemn in the strongest terms the serious episodes of violence and delinquency that have occurred in our city in the last few hours.” This is what Mayor Franz Caruso states with reference to the shots fired near the bus station and the brawl that developed during the night, which resulted in an injured person being transported under code red to the city emergency room.

“It is not up to me to go into the merits of the dynamics and responsibilities of what happened – continues Franz Caruso – it will be the police forces, as always, who will carry out the necessary investigations to ascertain the facts and identify those responsible. However, I can only reiterate my firm condemnation for these vile and ignoble acts, an expression of an aggressiveness and arrogance that do not belong to the common feeling of our community. Cosenza, although not immune from the phenomena of petty crime which increasingly affect urban centres, has been able to stand out over the years for a climate of civil coexistence, which we must continue to preserve with pride. It is essential that social peace, mutual respect and the safety of all citizens always prevail in our city, banning all forms of violence, oppression and incivility”.

“I sincerely hope that what happened during the night remains an isolated episode and will not be repeated – concludes Mayor Franz Caruso – To this end, I will ask for a meeting with the Prefect of Cosenza to evaluate together the opportunity to intensify controls, while recognizing the constant commitment and effectiveness of the work carried out daily by our police forces throughout the city and, with particular reference, in the bus station area. The latter is a place where surveillance has been strengthened, including with checkpoints targeted joint forces as a deterrent against crime.

However, it is only through collaboration between institutions, citizens and law enforcement that we will be able to continue to guarantee our city the climate of serenity, security and trust it deserves”.
