Under the Christmas tree, hundreds of people from Cosenza found an unwelcome surprise: letters from Municipia Spa (the company that continues to manage the tax collection service on behalf of the Municipality) requesting the payment of Tari dues relating to past years. There are those who received invoices from 2016-2017 onwards, others with five-year arrears. Huge sums starting from 2 thousand euros. Someone has already given the papers to their lawyer. Still others are waiting to go to the Municipality’s Tax Office, at Palazzo Ferrari, or directly to the Municipality office.
From the historic center, one of the most fragile social and economic contexts of the city, the cry of pain comes through the spontaneous Committee of Piazza Spirito Santo, which has collected the complaints of many residents. The demands for payment are producing anxiety and fear among citizens.
