A day of intense and uninterrupted work put to the test the staff of the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade of Crotone and all its detachments. From the first light of dawn until late in the evening, the operational teams, both ordinary and those specialized in the Boschivo firefighters (AIB), have been called to intervene on several fronts due to numerous fires flared up in different areas of the province. The situation was made particularly critical by the strong gusts of wind that fueled the flames and favored their rapid propagation.
The provincial command received dozens of calls, reporting bonfires in rural, wooded areas and, in several cases, with dangerous interfaces that directly threatened houses and structures. The concomitance of the events required resource management, with all the available teams engaged simultaneously to stem the advance of the fire.
The forest teams operated incessantly to contain the propagation of the flames in the vegetation, creating containment lines and trying to protect the most sensitive areas. At the same time, the ordinary teams of the firefighters were crucial in the interventions close to the inhabited centers, where the primary objective was the safeguarding of human lives and the protection of houses from heat and flames. In some cases, the support of regional air vehicles also made it necessary, where the conditions allowed it, to carry out targeted water launches.
At the moment, remediation operations in some of the affected areas are still ongoing to turn off the last outbreaks and avoid filming.
