Blitz of the forest carabinieri at the mouth of the Neto river, in the heart of an area of high naturalistic value protected at European level. In recent days, the military of the Crotone nucleus, in the context of targeted controls for the protection of environmental and landscape heritage, have Two areas illegally transformed into campsites seized.
Within the areas subject to environmental constraints, caravan, hammocks, tables and chairs were found: everything necessary for an abusive stay in full violation of current regulations. Two people were identified and reported to the judicial authority. The accusations: defacement of natural beauty, illegal management of waste, and violations of the rules of the Code of Cultural Heritage and the Consolidated Law on construction.
The employed areas fall within the special storage area “Foce del Neto”, a site protected by the Habitat directive and the birds of the European Union, recognized for its extraordinary ecological importance. The river ecosystem hosts numerous protected species, including the Gruccione (Merops Apiaster), and is crucial for nesting, migratory transit and the refuge of many avifaunistic species.
The control activity, carried out also thanks to the reports of attentive citizens and to the collaboration with local environmental associations, is part of a wider action plan for the contrast of environmental offenses, in line with the directives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crotone, led by dr. Domenico Guarascio. The protection of the territory and the safeguarding of biodiversity remain at the center of investigative priorities.
An operation that reiterates the importance of respect for the rules in areas of unique naturalistic value, where each abuse can represent irreversible damage for the balance of the ecosystem.
