Sinistra Italiana – AVS expresses concern about the cases of radioactivity found on some Akrea vehicles used for waste disposal in landfills. Phenomena which, according to the party, must be immediately investigated in order to identify the source of the pollution and urgently activate the actions necessary to eliminate any risk for the population.
There was harsh criticism of the attitude of Mayor Vincenzo Voce, accused of having immediately minimized the extent of the problem. An approach defined as “disconcerting”, the result – according to the Italian Left – of irresponsible and superficial behavior.
The role of the mayor and health protection
The movement recalls that the mayor, as a local health authority, has precise competences in the field of hygiene and public health and can intervene, in case of emergencies or serious dangers for citizens, by issuing specific ordinances.
Extensive and unconditional investigations
Sinistra Italiana – AVS hopes that local checks will be conducted with the utmost rigor on the entire network of waste bins and that they will also be extended to the municipal sewerage network. Controls which, the party underlines, must be carried out without conditioning by third parties who may have interests in the healthcare sector.
The movement also rejects the idea of generically attributing responsibility to incorrect behavior of citizens, highlighting how the first investigations have identified the improper disposal of special waste linked to oncology drugs, disposed of in municipal waste, as a possible cause of the contamination.
The surveillance of the Italian Left
Sinistra Italiana – AVS announces that it will monitor the actions implemented by the municipal administration and, if these are not adequate to protect the health of the citizens of Crotone, it will ask for a meeting with the Prefect to evaluate the most appropriate interventions in the competent offices.
