«For days, thousands of Calabrian farmers, breeders, transporters, workers and families have been protesting throughout the region. Since 28 September, around 3,000 people have participated in the protests organized from Crotone to Sibaritide, from Pizzo to Rosarno, from Davoli to Spezzano Albanese”.

This was stated by the Calabrian Democratic Party senator Nicola Irto in the Senate. «They took to the streets – he continues – because, under current conditions, they can no longer sustain their activities. When a farmer works for months, faces climate risks, invests resources and then sells his product at a loss, we are not faced with a simple economic difficulty: our production model is in crisis. The Government must intervene immediately on the high cost of fuel, on the increase in production costs and on the protection of agricultural income. We need compensation for the most affected companies, liquidity support and measures against unfair competition which penalizes Calabrian production.” «The silence of the large national media and of the public radio and television service is also serious – concludes Irto. The suffering that comes from Calabria is no less worth than the others. The Government listens to those who are demonstrating, confronts them and stops saying “wait”. There is no more time to waste.”
